Katarina Witt started skating at the age of five. Her natural talents was more evident, she received an entry at an Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards children who have a sporty ability. The school was where she met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt was able to make her mark in the year 1982 when she was second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. After that, she began dominating the sport with the grace and elegance she displayed. Olympic victory at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games, Katarina Witt came through a closely battle to take home the women's figure skating gold medal. The victory she won four years earlier was a bit more tense. In fact, she was not a winner in the free-skating contest, but won gold based on performance during the mandatory figure and short program. Witt was the first female to be crowned champion in male and female figure skating ever since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Although she did not win a gold medal, Witt won over the audience. Witt was named to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by its members in the year 1995.
